Carnelian
Carnelian
Carnelian is found globally, with the most significant deposits and primary source being India, especially the Pune region. Other major sources include Brazil, which rivals India's supply, as well as deposits in Madagascar, Uruguay, United States, and parts of Europe, such as Romania. Historically, places like Egypt were also significant sources.
Carnelian, known as sardius in some translations, appears in the Bible as a precious stone on the High Priest's breastplate in Exodus 28:17, in the King of Tyre's adornments in Ezekiel 28:13, and most notably, as part of the appearance of God's throne in Revelation 4:3, representing His majestic glory.
It is also listed as one of the foundational stones of the New Jerusalem in Revelation 21:20. If you hold a light up to carnelian the light can shine right through it causing the stone to glow.
Carnelian has a Mohs Hardness rating of 6.5 - 7.
